Ada suatu masa ketika sebagian besar wilayah dimuka bumi merupakan hutan yang lebat, namun berkat tuntutan umat manusia hal ini tidak lagi terjadi. Hal ini dilakukan untuk menghindari kerusakan pada skala global dengan didirikannya Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) pada tahun 1999. Menyadari ketidak efektifan dari sebuah standar internasional yang merangkul semua, PEFC memilih melakukan pendekatan untuk mendukung standar nasional yang memenuhi kenyataan politik, ekonomi, sosial, lingkungan dan budaya masing-masing negara, sementara pada saat yang sama memastikan kesesuaian dengan persyaratan diterima secara internasional dan menerima pengakuan global.

PEFC merupakan sistem sertifikasi hutan terbesar di dunia, dimana dua pertiga dari semua hutan yang bersertifikat disertifikasi menggunakan standar PEFC

Indonesia menjadi negara Asia ketiga yang menerima dukungan setelah Malaysia dan China, sejak Indonesian Forestry Certification Cooperation (IFCC) standar disahkan oleh Dewan PEFC pada bulan Oktober 2014.

AJA Europe adalah Lembaga Sertifikasi pertama yang telah terakreditasi untuk Standar Pengelolaan Hutan Berkelanjutan IFCC.

There was a time when much of the world was thickly forested, but thanks to the demands of the human race this is no longer the case. It was to counter such devastation on a global scale that the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) was founded in 1999. Realising the impracticality of anall-embracing international standard, PEFC instead opted for the approach ofendorsing national standards that meet the political, economic, social, environmental and cultural realities of individual countries, while at the same time ensuring compliance with internationally accepted requirements and global recognition.

Today PEFC is the world’s largest forest certification system, with two-thirds of all certified forest being certified to PEFC endorsed standards.

Indonesia became the third Asian country to receive endorsement after Malaysia and China, when the Indonesian Forestry Certification Cooperation (IFCC) standard was endorsed by the PEFC Council in October 2014.

AJA Europe was the first Certification Body to achieve accreditation for the IFCC Sustainable Forest Management Standard.
